Greeting Disc Huckers!
Today was a hot 98 degrees in Arlington, Texas where the Flying Dutchmen(FD) executed their weekly practice. Starting with two sweat breaking warm up drills to a heated scrimmage, with little water breaks and the sun constantly overhead. To lighten up practice, I so cleverly initiated the 'Down-Up' game where everyone stands in a circle with their arms around the people next to them, and one person, me in this instance, says 'Down, Up' and everyone looks down and then up at someone else in the circle. If you and another person are looking at each other, you both are out. It was a nice way to cool down after our scrimmage. Then afterwards we had another hard drill, the 'Figure 8'. A drill consisting of a series of cuts, and fakes, until the thrown is given. You are constantly running during this drill, which is why it was no surprise to my team when our captain, Clu, stated that after the drill we would have sprints. Clu is one of that many forms of Satan. Sprints were fun, a way to get out any energy you thought you didn't have, and during the rest period in between sprints, we had mini-workouts like push-ups, crunches, jumping-jacks, and squats. We ended the exhausting practice with a super-soaker, which Clue sprayed everyone with and breaking it out of 1, 2, 7. "Flying Dutchmen!"
Hope all you disc huckers got out there on this beautifully clear and hot day and threw the disc!
