Next level

So just as I mentioned all the levels of ultimate I have played at, Friday brought me a new opportunity. I will be participating on the Spanish Women's national team and going to WUGC in July (11-18) to represent Spain! It will be my first time at worlds (after two tryouts for U-19 when I was in high school and later in college). This will be phenomenal and completely elevate my playing experience. Seven days of ultimate with the best players in the world? I am stoked to go and even more excited to see how much I'll improve and change in the next 9 months or so.

How young and fresh I was the last time I posted something here. Almost eight years ago I was playing mixed ultimate with my club team Flying Dutchmen; a team that doesn't exist anymore. Since then I have played five years of women's ultimate with Maeve, four years of college ultimate with Hendrix Flying Squirrels (mixed) and Sugar Gliders (women's), three years of international ultimate with Discachos (mixed) and Zagalicas (women's), one year of mixed ultimate with Moontower, and one summer season with Public Enemy (mixed ultimate).

The most recent team I practiced with is Public Enemy. They are a Dallas based team but have players from other cities and states. They will be going to nationals in two weeks, so safe to say it is the highest level team I have played with so far. I was only a practice player this summer, mainly due to the fact that I didn't arrive in the states until June and I had work compromises until the end of July. Nevertheless, I enjoyed a short but sweet summer with the enemies and was happy to assist in the training before regionals and support them when they played.

Now I am helping with Discachos and Zagalicas once again. Murcia called me back fervently for a second (and final) year. Our mixed team does not have a tournament until February where we will participate in Sabe Mixta in Valencia. Our women's team, on the other hand, had a tournament last weekend in Valencia, the 6th edition of Xequebo. We placed 9th out of 12 teams (a disappointing drop from our 6th place finish last year) but we did win 4/6 games. The only teams we lost to went on to be the first and fourth place teams--so not too disappointed in that track record. I am doing my best to help the women's team of Murcia grow as well as assisting the mixed team with solidifying the basics and having a strong foundation to build upon whenever I am gone.

Up this weekend are the Spanish Women's National Team tryouts in Sabadell, Spain. I will be driving up to Sabadell in a rental car (using my international driver's license) with two friends and a pal from another city. We will have a 6-7 hour drive ahead of us before we arrive in Barcelona where we will be spending the night and then a short drive in the morning to Sabadell to participate in the women's tryouts. I am excited to have this experience before me and hope all goes well up north (hopefully cool weather will great us there).

That's all for now,
